“Bird Songs of the North American Prairie” by John Neville (Other Artist from British Columbia, Canada)

Nature recorder John Neville is at it again with "Bird Songs of the North American Prairie," a 182-track double CD release that gives the listener the pleasure of hearing the calls of 168 birds and, as an added bonus, six mammals. Neville narrates over each of his live recordings, informing the listener about which bird they are hearing. This release, like his others, serves a wonderful, instructional, and informational purpose, especially for those interested in birdcalls and bird watching. "Bird Songs of the North American Prairie," is well-produced, and Neville's narrative dubs, as well as his initial live recordings are lively and distinct. "Cd1 Introduction" introduces the release with Neville informing the listener that he is spending sixteen weeks recording these birds, many of which are rare and nearing extinction. "Common Loon" displays the calming night chorus of the common loon on a lake. The majority of the other tracks are as straightforwardly approached, so if you're curious about one particular bird you can skip right to it. "Bird Songs of the North American Prairie" is a success, both as an instructional album and as an exploration of nature, and should be picked up by anyone interested in birdsongs and birdcalls.

"Happiness and Self-Esteem" by Rick Collingwood (Spoken Word Artist from Australia)

"Happiness and Self-Esteem" is an inspiring self-help CD brought to you by award-winning Australian hypno-therapist Rick Collingwood. Right away you can feel your journey beginning as relaxing string pulses and ambient accents pave the way for Rick's instructions. Along the way you will be challenged to help yourself deal with the fears that put up roadblocks in your life while in a completely relaxed and hypnotic state. The album sounds great, as it must, in able to achieve it's goal, and Rick's voice has a great natural hypnotic quality. "Mediterranean Myths" by Yiorgos Magoulas (World Artist from Greece)

"Mediterranean Myths" by Yiorgos Magoulas is an emotional instrumental album that features innovative combinations of instruments. Somewhere in these eclectic arrangements a Mediterranean feel is present. The tracks all hold a certain power to them and are very cinematic. The tracks on this CD envoke emotion. The production quality is great, especially considering it is electronic/sample based. All in all, Mr. Magoulas' musical style is highly unique and refreshingly undefinable. Highlights include "Promise," which is very well arranged, has a great build and a wonderful medley of instruments. "Color Suite - Prelude" is a string arrangement that will pull right at your heart. "Phaedra" is an intense orchestral piece with nice percussive elements and more interesting instrument choices. If you like unique, emotion driven orchestral music, you'll like this CD.

"Global Theta" by Sue Scudder and Donna Aazura (New Age Artist from Colorado(CO))

"Global Theta" by Sue Scudder and Donna Aazura is a meditation CD designed to shift your mind into a state of peaceful existence in order to work toward world harmony. Musically the album is, of course, highly ambient. The synths combined with delicate piano lines start the process and maintain it as the soft female voice guides you through the auditory journey. The production quality of this album is good and it certainly achieves the correct mood and is well thought out in its purpose. The album features one track with narration and a second track without. It's a nice option to have, catering to whatever mood you may be in. So, if you are looking to find your way into a peaceful and relaxed state, give this CD a listen.

"Tumult" by Vincent (New Age Artist from Virginia(VA))

"Tumult" by Vincent is an imaginative instrumental CD that is, in a way, a conceptual album. The intent of this album is to reach into your mind and stir various emotions. The sound is worldly and yet traditional. The arrangements are definitely outside the norm. Since the CD is meant to envoke emotion, expect some romanticism, but also expect some ecclecticism. On that note, the arrangements are quite interesting, full and well-layered. Highlights are "Forest Glade Creatures, " which features an angelic harp and a very active woodwind arrangement. "The Tempest" is a wild and archaic blend of creative sounds. "The Takeover" is another big number and features some intense pipe organ and a cinematic flair. If you like John Williams with an interesting twist, you'll like this one.

"O Holy Night" by Elizabeth (Easy Listening/Spiritual artist from Oklahoma (OK))

"O Holy Night" by Elizabeth is a 3-song collection of spiritual songs that feature the incredible voices of Bet and Ashtyn Wallace. The strong and lilting rendition of an old favorite religious melody, "O Holy Night," brings the talent of both mother and daughter to light, and displays the especially beautiful mix of their voices when they harmonize. Both vocalists have pitch-perfect vibrant voices and clear diction which enhances their performances. The keyboard work at the beginning of "I Don't Wanna Go" gives a full appreciation of the strong backup work on this selection and blends extremely well with the gentle voices of the vocalists. If you enjoy beautiful spiritual music or emotionally-moving female vocalists, you will enjoy this CD.

"Relatively Gone" by Kent Welton is a pacifying collection of jazz instrumentals. Soothing and graceful best describe these free-flowing compositions. "Sky Waltz" stands out for its beautiful guitar-tone lead and cohesive drum arrangement. "Orbiting Pluto" steers away from the generally organic atmosphere and assumes a more electric, transcendental sound. All in all, Kent consistently delivers great mind-easing jazz and easy-listening songs with "Relatively Gone."

"Been To The River" by J R Roberts (Spiritual/Blues artist from Gainesville/Jacksonville, Florida (FL))

"Been To The River" by J R Roberts is a unique cross between traditional blues and today's contemporary Christian music. The musicianship, songwriting, and recording quality of this CD is very impressive. Opening with the blues-groove "You Are King," listeners are immediately introduced to J R's soulful and powerful vocals. It is clear that J R has quite a keenness for crafting memorable songs. Lyrically, these tunes are perfect for the congregational worship setting. J R showcases his unrefined country blues side with the very intimate title-track, "Been To The River." Moreover, "Jesus Be The Lord Of My Life" ventures into the adult-contemporary genre and demonstrates J R's vocal and musical versatility. All in all, this CD flaunts a wide appeal to fans of gospel, blues, jazz, and adult-contemporary and is well worth a listen.

"Comet" by Masuretti (Electronica artist from Los Angeles, California (CA))

"Comet" by the exceptionally creative Masuretti is an out-of-this-world electronic/ambient collection. Entering a musical territory of his own creation, Masuretti stumbles into a very dreamy collection that is quite memorable. "Recurring Dream" is very hypnotic in nature, and has the tendency to get stuck in your head. The title-track is another stand-out track, surrounding itself in a very extraterrestrial musical atmosphere and demonstrating Masuretti's meaningful lyrics. One thing is quite clear from this collection: Masuretti stretches the boundaries of musical tradition, combining unlikely elements (such as tribal percussion) to produce a very likeable album.

"As I Am" by Alicia Keys (R&B/Pop artist from New York (NY))

Gracing the music world with her first release in four years, Alicia Key's latest, "As I Am," delivers an overdose of genuine soul. Backed by very organic musical compositions, Keys shines vocally more in this album than perhaps any other. The very inspirational ballad dubbed "Superwoman" delivers a very loud-and-proud message to all the hard-working, independent women out there. Other stand-out tracks include the stripped-down and sincere "Lesson Learned," the slightly retro "Wreckless Love," and the groovy beat-driven "I Need You."

"Creation" by Maximilian (Ambient/New-Age composer from England)

"Creation" by the musically avid Maximilian is an emotion-provoking assembly of ambient/new-age compositions. Very theatrical and eventful in nature, much of Maximilian's compositions seem fit for use on the big-screen. "Legasy" stands out as especially transcendental and dramatic. "Journey Through a Night of Peace" is the most light-hearted track on this CD, steering away from the overall somber mood. Through this album, Maximilian mixes orchestral string arrangements, compelling vocal tones, and brilliant piano work to create very vivid emotional expressions.

"No Trespassing" by Andrew Roussak (Progressive Rock artist from Germany)

"No Trespassing" by Andrew Roussak is a very pleasing progressive rock compilation. Superb instrumentation is one of the most noteworthy aspects of this CD. The instrumental and vocal performances are filled with fever, passion and emotion. "Lost In the Woods" flaunts a razor sharp rock edge and demonstrates this CD's robust vocals. "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" stands out among the more solemn tracks on this CD, serving up some great piano, organ, flute and string arrangements. Intriguingly, many of these songs are multi-faceted in nature, constantly morphing into varying emotional expressions. Furthermore, the production of "No Trespassing" utilizes small elements and sounds that really give these compositions a life of their own.
