"Psalms for Warriors" by Riverside Arts Guild (Spoken Word Artists from New Jersey (NJ))

"Psalms for Warriors," by Riverside Arts Guild, is a Christian CD featuring the reading of Biblical psalms in a variety of musical settings. We were struck by the uniqueness and universality of the concept behind this recording. The vision of Riverside Arts Guild is far-reaching in scope. The artists are endeavoring to bring to life psalms in the Bible pertaining to war. To accomplish this goal, they have employed a wide variety of musical styles, instruments, voices, and languages. The presentation of the poetry in such a way draws the listener into the meaning of the words beyond the confines of culture and time. The highlight of the CD is the reading of Psalm 91 in both English and Greek with a beautiful acoustic guitar backdrop. Also notable is the skillful use of the capeoria on several tracks. (The artists tell us that this instrument was traditionally used by African slaves in Brazil.) Altogether, this is a spoken word CD that, once heard, will not soon be forgotten! Highly recommended!

"Delta Flyer" by Stevie DuPree (Blues artist from Texas (TX))

A totally terrific CD from Stevie DuPree, Delta Flyer captures the diversity of his heritage. The recording quality is crystal clear, the musicianship is impressive, and the songwriting provides memorable tracks. Harder Than A Fat Man (live) has an awesome story line, great hooks, with catchy lyrics and licks. Steady Thinkin brings along wonderful up-beat rocking blues, and Stevie is no doubt gonna get the girl in this tune. Excellent harmonies are presented on When The Deal Goes Down. Every Monkey Woman has a wonderful groove; it is cute and a terrific dancing tune. An exceptional musical number has to be Queen Bee; alive and buzzing with piano and guitar solos. Our two picks: Please Think Of Me is a sensual saxophone-laced duet, and the toe-tapping Driving Rain with delicious fiddle in which Stevie shows his bluegrass roots. "Lifetimes" by Ricci Carr (adult contemporary artist from Australia)

A beautiful guitar intro opens the impressive adult pop CD "Lifetimes" by Australian artist Ricci Carr. The wonderful production of the CD effectively allows Ricci's vocals to cut through the beautiful and impressive accompaniment. Ricci has such control of her vocals, with terrific intonation and enunciation. She excels vocally - A fantastic performance! The soloists on this project compliment the songs so well, it was difficult to select a favorite piece. "You" brings a freshness in an adult pop song, bursting with energy and emotion. Beautiful saxophone accompanies the well-written song "Where Do We Go From Here". "Thinking Of You" is our favorite pick of this tremendous CD, for the tempo is perfect for dancing; the mood-setting song of the entire collection. Ricci Carr is splendid, and if you are shopping for easy listening/adult pop material you are sure to love this CD!

From the opening acoustic strains of "Maria Faia," there is a distinctly live, energetic feel to the whole disc. Maria sings in Portuguese for most of the album. One of our favorite tracks, "She Never Cries," is an uptempo number punctuated by bluesy electric guitar licks and accordian swells. The album closer, "Isto e o Fim," really captures the album's live-band feel, complete with studio chatter, and you feel as if you are truly there with the musicians, tapping your foot along. "Paradis, Paradise" by Robezz (jazz artist from Nevada (NV))

The CD "Paradis, Paradise" by Robezz is a remarkable album. It has all the ingredients of a great jazz masterpeice. All elements of this album are impressive, including the recording quality and the outstanding musicianship, especially Robezz's keyboard playing, which is very funky, and the drum programming, which is very unique. What stands out the most is his uncanny ability to deliver such precise compositions. The arrangements of every song are very clever. "Las Vegas Life," sounds very similar to a composition from Herbie Hancock. It keeps your attention at all times. This project can stand the test of time. If you are a fan of jazz fusion, We urge you to buy this album.

"Right Where I Belong," by Lauren Hooker (jazz artist from Teaneck, New Jersey (NJ))

The CD, Right Where I Belong, by Lauren Hooker is a very impressive jazz project, packed with original and classic jazz compositions. Lauren's vocals are in a class by themselves. She flows vocally through different jazz standards as if she lived them herself. Her voice is rich, tasteful and soulful. Lauren brings back the 50's sound with avengence and just plain brilliance. The track, "No Goodbyes", is a composition that propells Lauren in the same class as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. It's a beautiful and pure composition, and it stands above the rest of the original jazz tracks on the album. The lyrics tell a heart-felt story that can be appreciated by anyone, regardless of age. We recommend everyone to listen to the entire album and we can assure you that you won't be able to stop listening to the project. It's an inspiration for any musician or songwriter. "Ecce Jazz" by Pavol Bodnar (jazz artist from the Slovak Republic)

Pavol Bodnar's release of Ecce Jazz is a truly one of a kind jazz project. The CD is well-rounded with various styles such as eclectic jazz fusion, folk music melodies, Latin rhythms and universal harmony. The music on this CD clearly reflects an international sound like no other CD that we've heard recently. Pavol's piano arrangements are very diverse, along with spontaneous improvizing over baroque forms. One of the titles on the album, "3 Roses 4 Martina", is one of our favorites. This track says I am jazz, I am love, I am peace. The vocal style is very similar to Will Downing, and the fretless bass wraps around the melodies, like a tight fitting glove to a hand. This album definitely ranks very high in our book as one of the most sensual, and harmoneous projects to have been released in a long time. We strongly urge you to purchase this CD by Pavol Bodnar, a jazz pianist, composer and arranger.
